Romance: Hands down, The Dark-Hunter series, for making me care about vampires again.
Scifi/Fantasy: The Darkness That Comes Before, for being an awesome combination of all the things I like in fantasy. The Curse of Chalion, for doing religion right. Ursula Le Guin’s Three Hainish Novels, for her exquisitely interwoven sensibilities about humanity and about story.
Nonfiction: City of Bits, for making my brain buzz. I Thought My Father Was God, for making me laugh while I cried.
Fiction: Crazy as Chocolate, for being real.
Graphic Novel: The Books of Magic, volume one, for being gorgeous and engaging.
